Kiruba was born on the 5th of December 1997, he has been in Bethany Home since 2009. His father left the family many years ago and remarried, settling in a village with his new family. He has cut all links with his children. His mother is working as a cook in a convent kitchen.

Kiruba failed Grade 7 and was therefore held back for a year. He decided to be home-schooled instead of repeating Grade 7, and so dropped out of school. Hoping to get into Grade 8, he is currently working in a shop whilst waiting for an end-of-year exam which will establish his acceptance into Grade 8. Kiruba has an excellent sense of humour when it comes to learning new English expressions, playing marbles, or listening to music.
